WELCOME TO THE FRIENDS OF TURNER

Welcome to my World.

This is the front page of  Hazelle Jackson. I am currently rebuilding my website to reflect my various interests so this is currently a work in progress. Please keep coming back.

About Me: Meanwhile here is a little bit about  me: I am a writer and editor with a particular interest in historic landscapes, gardens and local history. I  write freelance articles on landscape and garden history which I illustrate with my own photographs.  I edit  "London Landscapes" for the London Parks and Gardens Trust.  Past Commissions have included features for Living History magazine, Green Places, the London Gardener and I write the annual guide for London's  Open Garden Squares Weekend. .From 2004-2006 I was the Secretary of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers' Guild.  In 2006-7 I curated  "Change on the Heath", an exhibition on Surrey's changing landscape for the Surrey Heathland Project, which toured the county..

I am very interested in artificial grottoes, my book "Shell Houses and Grottoes" was published by Shire Books in 2001, and I give regular illustrated lectures on this subject around the UK. Please get in touch if you would like me to come and talk to your group as I can tailor my talk to the local area.

I have written several books on social and local history. (More information on these and where to buy them will be added shortly).

Image Libraries and Collections: I collect old postcards. I have several collections and they include: views of  London parks and gardens over the last 100 years; early displays of carpet bedding in UK parks; images of  Surrey in the early 20th century.   These are held as individual photo libraries. If you need any images on these subjects, do get in touch as I am likely to be able to help.

I have a large collection of photos and postcards of follies and grottoes around the UK from the 1900s to the present day which I maintain as a photo library.

Follies Blog: I am very keen on follies in general and I maintain a blog about modern follies to which I welcome contributions. You can find it at http://follyfancier.solupress.com Can a bathing hut be a folly?  I ran some stuff on bathing huts recently here, stimulated by a competition to design modern ones for the Lincolnshire coast. This excited a flurry of interest and views. You'll need to go to the blog and read the comments to find out!

Ezine: I don't have a personal blog. I am not sure my life is that interesting! I do however maintain an online commonplace book, called The Naked Reader, (http://www.thenakedreader.com). This is in the form of an ezine. Here is where  I collect articles, photos and write about things that interest me, both contemporary and historic.

Recently I have included: a story about goats  sacrificed on the runway in Nepal to appease the sky gods, the impact of the changing UK weather (did you know there have been two mini tornadoes in Farnborough, my old home town, in the last year?),  reports on  the impact of the internet on the music business  and lately I have introduced Maritime Matters as I have become interested in marine salvage of historic wrecks (not that I am planning to dive, on the other hand tornado chasing in the USA does  appeal....)

I am in the process of constructing a hierarchical website for my various interests. This is the front page today, but it may change. Indeed it will, in future.

Y'all come back you hear.
